Show off your superpower, pick out your highest drag (or costume) and razzle your dazzle over to Sha’ar Zahav’s inter-generational Purim celebration. From megillah reading to a kid-led spiel to our community party-all you need to know on Purim at CSZ is just below.
5-5:30pm Making Mishloah Manot (holiday gift baskets)
Make mishloah manot (food baskets) and learn about the Purim mitzvah of delivering them to friends and family.
Everyone will get a basket to go home.
5:30-6:20pm Dinner and CSZ Storyteller, Diana Shmiana
Rejoice in community over dinner.
This year, rather than charging for dinner, we are inviting everyone to donate
Safeway and Target gift cards to benefit LGTBQ refugees resettled in the Bay Area. Not only is this a way to give back to our community, it also gives you a way to perform the Purim mitzvah of matanot l’evyonim (giving to those in need).
RSVP for dinner to Adam Pollack at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Wednesday, March 8.
At 5:45, kids will be whisked off to hear Diana Shmiana tell her best Purim stories and prepare for the costume parade.
6:20pm Costume Parade
Kids can get their faces painted and primp their costumes before parading upstairs to the sanctuary for megillah reading.
6:30pm Megillah reading and kid-led spiel
The heart of our celebration is our megillah reading, when we read the Purim story accompanied by music from our own klezmer band, Gay Iz Mir. Our BSPM students have prepared a spiel, Purim parody video and special song this year to warm our hearts, make us laugh and celebrate our community.
Groggers will be provided!
Our celebration will conclude with a spirited, musical party appropriate for adults and children. Come ready to smile, laugh, dance, drink and eat hamentashen.
A special Purim mock-tail and cocktail will be served.
Thank you for the Education, Program and Ritual Committees for their hard work on putting this evening together.
We would like our programs to be accessible to those with chemical sensitivities and allergies, and therefore support a Fragrance-Free Environment.
