With the war in Gaza and hostilities elsewhere in Israel and Palestine continuing, planning a trip to Israel holds great uncertainty. And yet, we must plan now in order to have the opportunity to travel in November.

Engaging with Israel today is challenging. The political situation is disturbing, as democratic values and systems are at risk – as they are in the U.S. and elsewhere. And yet Israel – both historically and today – is intricately entwined with Judaism, and can stir the heart in beautiful and complex ways.

Join us as we will explore these complexities through our site visits, nature visits, community service and meetings with NGOs, academics, politicians, Israelis from many communities, with the help of a tour operator co-owned and run by an American Jewish and Palestinian Israeli peace builder/travel entrepreneurs.

Dates: Nov 15 -24, 2024

Cost: Approximately $4000 + airfare. Check out the website even if cost may be a barrier – we want to hear from you!

We’re aiming for a group size of 25-40 (the price drops if more people join).

Registration Deadline: August 16

Travelers from the 2023 postponed tour should email [email protected] to confirm their participation.

If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected]

Both SZ and Mejdi are committed to working closely with each traveler to create as accessible a trip as possible. Please direct questions about accommodations and accessibility to [email protected]

If you cannot join our trip but would like to help make it financially possible for another SZ member, please contact Danny Shapiro about making a donation.

Sha’ar Zahav and Mejdi are following the situation in Israel closely. SZ and Mejdi will review the situation and decide whether going to Israel is reasonably safe, during the 2nd week of August.  Of course the trip may be cancelled by Mejdi at any time based on safety considerations.
Many Jewish organizations are now traveling to Israel, and we are optimistic that we will be able to learn and connect to Israel, from both Jewish Israelis and Palestinians from Israel and from Palestine (the West Bank).  If we want the opportunity to travel in November, travelers must register as soon as possible.
