Classes

In our school, Beit Sefer Phyllis Mintzer, children, and their families experience Jewish community and learn to affirm diversity and the sacredness of every person and family. We offer children and their parents an engaged community, in which children’s education is integrated into the mainstream of synagogue life, and adults are welcomed into the classroom.

Our school’s first teacher, Phyllis Mintzer (z’’l), believed that every person and every word contained sparks of holiness. Beit Sefer Phyllis Mintzer is guided by her spirit.

Beit Sefer Phyllis Mintzer (BSPM) offers:
Jewish education that includes Torah, ethics, ritual, Hebrew, history, and Israel with an emphasis on Jewish diversity and social justice in an LGBT/queer-positive community.

  1. Professional staff—the teaching staff includes educators with extensive Jewish education backgrounds and reflects the diversity of our Bay Area community.
  2. Experiential Jewish Education—the process of teaching Jewish life, and Jewish values, by building meaningful Jewish experiences that strengthen the connections between the synagogue, the home and the diverse community around us.
  3. Spirituality—offered through a rich experience of Shabbat, regular opening prayer circles in the shul’s sanctuary and active participation in the congregation’s ritual life.
  4. Community—building a sense of belonging to children and their families in the congregation and the larger community.

BSPM is open to children ages 5 through 13.
Classes are on Saturday from 9:00a–12:00p.
School year is September – May.
